Windows Server 2003 provides remote access through a service named the Rout ing And Remote Access service. Clients can access a network by connecting directly to the server or by a Virtual Private Network. Routing And Remote Access supports several access protocols, the most important of which is Point-to-Point protocol. Once a connection is made, the remote access protocol dictates the physical aspects of data transfer over the connection. Three primary methods for securing remote access are authentication (where the user is authenticated to determine the access he is allowed), connection control (where allowing connections only from certain remote locations is allowed), and access control (where users or groups of users can be given or denied permissions for remote access).

This is a helpful feature when you are trying to locate the process for a particular application and the process name is less than intuitive. When you click New Task, a Create New Task dialog box appears in which you can enter or browse for the name of any standard executable file or command. This dialog box is the functional equivalent of the Run dialog box, which is accessible from the Start menu.

When you select the Show Processes From All Users check box, the list includes all services and other system processes in addition to user-level applications. By right-clicking any process, you can change the priority of processor time that the process receives, set the processor affinity on multiple processor computers, and end a process. For processes that have child or related processes, you can end all related processes by choosing End Process Tree. If you needed to end a mail application, for example, you might also need to end the MAPI spooler; appropriately, you would right-click the mail application and choose to End Process Tree.
