We then evolved our servlet-based example to a three-tiered EJB architecture with the session facade and EJB command patterns. Thanks to Hibernate s detached object support, we can avoid the DTO pattern and eliminate a great deal of tedious code. We used a servlet filter as an interceptor to implement application transactions with a long-running Hibernate Session.
