While it would be impractical for most organizations to install expensive WAN con nections solely for testing purposes, there are other ways to incorporate WAN links into your lab network. For a new network rollout, you might be able to use the WAN connections for the production network during a preliminary testing phase, and then use the same connections for the live deployment when you have com pleted the testing. You can also substitute lower cost WAN technologies in the lab for the real ones on the production network. For example, if your network design calls for T-1 leased lines to connect your offices, you can create a reasonable facsimile of the live network in the lab using modems and dial-up connections. Obviously, this type of arrangement does not enable you to test technology-dependent elements such as WAN bandwidth utili zation, but it can provide a more accurate representation of your live production network than you could achieve with LAN technology alone. Creating a WAN testing environment using actual WAN links obviously requires that you disperse the testing facilities among your network locations. Depending on the needs of your organization, you might want to build a lab network at each site, so that the staff at each location can use its own lab network for its own test ing and training operations, or you can create a satellite installation at each site, accessible through remote control and intended only to provide a terminus for the WAN connection.

If only because administrators didn t realize the issue and only ran into the problem when the first Outlook 2003 client attempted to connect to Exchange 2010, the encryption requirement proved to be a real problem for Exchange 2010 deployments. Microsoft therefore changed the default configuration for the CAS in SP1 so that encryption is disabled. While this is a solution that enables smooth connections for Outlook 2003 clients, it creates another problem. Older CAS servers deployed with RTM have encryption enabled. This configuration is retained after the upgrade to SP1. New servers deployed using SP1 have encryption disabled. You can then anticipate a situation where a mixture of old and new servers are collected into a CAS array and Outlook 2003 clients become confused because they can connect to the new servers but not to the old. I can imagine that administrators will be confused shortly thereafter as they attempt to debug the problem. With this in mind, best practice remains to force encryption for all client server communications, even if this means that some Outlook 2003 profiles have to be updated.

We already covered the UNIQUE keyword in 3. All primary keys and unique constraints are implemented as unique indexes. The CLUSTERED and NONCLUSTERED options designate the type of index you are creating. We will cover the NONCLUSTERED option in Lesson 3, Creating Nonclustered Indexes, of this chapter. After you specify that you want to create a clustered index, you need to specify a name for your index. Every index must have a name that conforms to the rules for object identifiers. Next, you use the ON clause to specify the object to create the index against. You can create an index on either a table or a view (we cover indexed views in 7, Implementing Views ). After you specify the table or view to create the index against, you specify in parentheses the columns on which you will create the index. The ASC and DESC keywords specify whether the sort order should be ascending or descending.

The default factory for controllers is the DefaultControllerFactory class. This class gets the type of the controller class to instantiate and uses .NET reflection to activate it. In doing so, it assumes a default constructor on the controller class and defaults to that.
