Tabula is a free tool for extracting data from PDF files into CSV and Excel files. Once the entity is defined, you will need to create additional metadata that defines the expected user actions and the sequence of events that result in the display of information in the task pane. This sequence of events is known as an IBF pipeline. The key to understanding this process is to understand how IBF responds to user activity and the steps involved in a typical IBF pipeline. All IBF pipelines begin with a user action in an Office document such as clicking a smart tag menu. When this action occurs, special XML data is sent from Office to the CAS engine. This data contains all of the information necessary to tell IBF what entity and view to display. The data sent to IBF, however, is not in the proper form to act as an input to the associated web service. Therefore, IBF applies a transformation to format the data correctly. After the transformation, IBF routes the data to the web service method designated in the OperationInstance element to produce the desired view. The web service then returns data in the form designated by the web service. The output schema returned by the web service, however, may not be appropriate to send directly to the user control for display in the task pane. Therefore, the data is transformed again and sent to the task pane for display.
