Most, if not all, knobs and tasks exposed in SQL Server Management Studio can be done via script. Besides Transact-SQL, another language you may want to get familiar with as an administrator is Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). I call the webAPI from MVC project and return me a byte Array that is a Pdf file. I need to convert that byte arry to pdf and show in IE. Some gray area now comes in with the CLR built into SQL Server. Will DBAs be responsible for maintaining and performance tuning code other than Transact-SQL I don t know the answer to that, and I suspect it will vary from company to company. Long term, I think it will definitely fall into the realm of the DBA. DBAs will certainly need to be aware of the CLR, the security issues around it, and how it is used. None of my clients to date have used it. I m sure this will change over time. This also speaks to how an application will be developed and where you will want to place the logic for your application.
