Fortunately, in EJB 3 accessing a remote or local session bean looks exactly the same. As a matter of fact, other than method invocation patterns, stateless and stateful session beans pretty much look alike from a client s perspective too. In all of these cases, a session bean client follows these general steps to use a session bean: JOB_TITLE: There is no relationship between JOB_TITLE and LOCATION All JOB_TITLE values may appear in any LOCATION There is a need to access the EMPLOYEE data by many different keys in different places in the application, and speed is paramount In a data warehouse, we might just use locally partitioned indexes on these keys and use parallel index range scans to collect a large amount of data fast In these cases, we don t necessarily need to use index partition elimination In an OLTP system, however, we do need to use it Parallel query is not appropriate for these systems; we need to provide the indexes appropriately Therefore, we will need to make use of global indexes on certain fields The goals we need to meet are Fast access Data integrity Availability Global indexes can accomplish these goals in an OLTP system. The client obtains a reference to the beans directly or indirectly from JNDI. All session bean invocations are made through an interface appropriate for the access type. The client makes as many method calls as are necessary to complete the business task at hand. In case of a stateful session bean, the last client invocation should be a remove method. The Spring integration test base classes override the setUp() method and mark it as final, but do provide life cycle callback methods for subclasses that require per-test method initialization. For transactional tests, two methods are provided: onSetupBeforeTransaction() to be called before the transaction is started, and onSetupAfterTransaction() to be called after the transaction is started. Both callbacks are called inside setUp(), and thus before every single test method. For our example, we have implemented onSetupBeforeTransaction() in order to simply initialize any required testing stubs. Because the transactional test cases are subclasses of AbstractDependencyInjection SpringContextTests, we provide a setHomeController() method so that our test class can avoid the manual lookup of dependencies from the ApplicationContext. The dependencies are resolved by type via the autowiring algorithm, and will be re-injected before every test method. Of course, because the Controller class originates from the ApplicationContext, all of its dependencies will be injected as well. The assumption at this point is that the class under test should be fully initialized as if it were running in production. The actual test method, testRequest(), is written and run just like any other JUnit test method.
