If you are a developer, system administrator, or a technically minded consultant installing a demo system, we recommend the following: Windows XP Professional, at least for the machines on which you plan to install server components. A minimum of an Intel Pentium III class 1GHz CPU or equivalent AMD; an Intel Pentium 4 is best. An Intel Pentium II class CPU will tax your patience and take the fun out of learning Axapta. A minimum of 512MB RAM more is better, particularly on the systems where you plan to install server components. A decent 17-inch screen. We recommend the largest screen you can get your hands on. If you are a developer, having a system with two 19-inch screens is really great when you need to debug and/or run other applications, like Visual Studio, side by side with Axapta. At least 10GB of hard disk space, depending on how many companies and databases you will be setting up. The more drive space, the better. If you can afford the luxury, then we also recommend a networked sandbox with two or even three machines, where you can experiment with installing different components on different machines, and later running code on the client or server side.

Finally, all that remains is to place the assemblies in the required folders with the relevant names: <target name="position" description="Place required assets"> <copy file="${core.deploy}\${project.name.1}.dll" todir="${core.environment}\${solution.name}\Latest\" overwrite="true" /> <copy file="${core.deploy}\${project.name.1}.dll" tofile="${core.environment}\${solution.name}\Specific\ ${project.name.1}_${sys.version}.dll" overwrite="true" /> </target> Again, these steps are not complicated. The important aspect of this work is the overwriting of the assembly in the Latest folder with whichever published version is being used and then the write of a named version of the assembly to the Specific folder.

Note The previous recommendations do not cover the requirements for the Axapta Web-based client, Enterprise

1 1 2 2 1 1 2 2 2 2 2 2

While we highly recommend that you get a setup that resembles the one suggested in the previous section, in real life the majority of people working with Axapta are customers i.e., end users who have neither the need nor the motivation to throw out their existing

Note There is no safeguard on overwriting the Latest version with some older version of the assembly.

Before you can use this module, you must set up a basic data infrastructure. In reality, all you need is to define your current business structure, and to create existing employees and employee data. This module contains a great many forms and tables, but you can create data as needed and add it as you go.

Once this file is run, with something like the following line, the assembly is then deployed into the chosen locations, as can be seen in Figure 5-5 and Figure 5-6: nant -f:Etomic.Library.Transformer.Deploy.xml -D:debug=false -D:sys.version=1.0.1.0

Unlike most other modules, the data in this module does not flow through to the financial modules. Still, it is important to think through the data that you will use in this module so you can minimize your data input and setup efforts. Try to create data that you can use repeatedly. For example, set up all the skills that your organization employs so that you can simply assign the relevant skills when you create an employee, an open position, an application for that position, etc. As with any module in Axapta, the Parameters form (Human Resources Setup Parameters), shown in Figure 6-1, contains many of the options for how the module will function. You should be sure to take a thorough look through the options available on this form.
