This trigger will cause an error if the new value of the quantity field of the updated record in the books table is less than 0. The custId instance variable is initialized within the initialize business method you should invoke upon creating each bean instance. In particular, you might want to invoke the initialize method the first time you access the ShoppingCart JSP page within a client s session. The values of the instance variables of a stateful bean instance are preserved between invocations within the same client session. So, all business methods of a CartBean instance will use the value of the custId instance variable initialized in the initialize method at the beginning.
