Add a new model to your project by right-clicking your project and selecting Add New Item. Choose ADO.NET Entity Data Model from the Visual C# Data templates. Select Generate from database. Click Next. Use the wizard to select an existing connection to your database or create a new connection. From the Choose Your Database Object dialog box, select the Account table. Leave the Pluralize and Foreign Key options checked. Click Finish. Click the Account entity to view the Mapping Details window. Once your ESS is configured, you should be able to test sending messages from your app when running in the simulator. These will be delivered to the desktop client, where you can confirm that they contain the settings and attachments you expect to see. NFS (network file system) is a file system used for sharing files on a network. One great feature of NFS is that it provides home folders to large numbers of computers by using the auto-mount feature combined with the NFSHomeDirectory attribute in LDAP. The settings for NFS in Server Admin are minimal at best. NFS trusts the client, which is one reason that it has such a high number of security flaws. However, Mac OS X Server 10.5 and later, provide Kerberized NFS, making it slightly more appealing than on some competing platforms. NFS has two global service options in Server Admin: the number of server daemons and the option to use TCP or UDP (or both) for serving up your data, neither of which is very security policy-friendly. But notice that you cannot stop or start the NFS daemon from Server Admin. There are only two services like this: Open Directory and NFS. If you have

The earlier part of this chapter dealt with sending messages. Now we will look at how to receive messages. Not every app will need both kinds of functions. You may just send messages to share information about what your app is doing, or just receive messages in order to activate functions within your app. Some peer-to-peer apps will do both. The classes used to receive messages are usually the same as those used to send them, but they are used in different ways.

NFS enabled for any share point, then you re stuck running the NFS daemon; if not, the daemon will not start. If you don t have an export on any share points, then you can t run it, so in order to stop the NFS daemon, verify that no shares are using NFS. Workgroup Manager settings give the administrator per-export (share point) configuration capability. This is where each export would be secured independently, which is very different from securing AFP shares, for example. When you set up an export, you will have the option to export the directory listing to Client (certain IPs), World (everyone), or Subnet (all IPs in the specified subnet), which can be seen in Figure 16 28. These options are included to mitigate the risks associated with running NFS (such as man-in-the-middle attacks). Once you have chosen who can access this data, you can determine how to handle data access. Each export has the ability to map the root user to nobody (the root user receives permission as guest), map all users to nobody (all users act as the guest permission set), and can be set to read-only (useful for backups or remote sync operations) as well as for mounted shares such as /Network/Applications or /Network/Library, directories where clients should never need access to write to them.
