The properties of the connector establish the servers that can send messages through the connector. One fundamental control is the ability to limit the sources from which the connector will accept messages. This control is exerted by assigning the ability to access the connector to permission groups rather than individual users. A permission group is a predefined set of permissions assigned to an object (in this case, the connector) that is granted to well-known security principals such as a user or group. Exchange uses permission groups to make it easier to configure access to a connector. It is much more convenient to deal with security through groups that represent entities such as anyone who has an Exchange mailbox (Exchange users) or any other Exchange server in this organization (Exchange servers) rather than having to assign the permission to individual objects. Finally, this receive connector does not include the Partners permission group, which is used when mutual TLS connections are set up with a remote domain . However, the permission groups shown here are sufficient for the vast majority of all Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 hub transport servers .
