This one is a technical-social hack that was perpetrated by Ron Avitzur, proprietor of Pacific Tech (www.pacifict.com) and legendary creator of the Graphing Calculator application that began shipping with Apple s first Power Macintosh computers in the early 1990s. When Apple was developing the Power Macintosh line, Ron s Graphing Calculator project was cancelled. But Ron didn t let that stop him. For months, he snuck into Apple, and with a combination of determination, help from others, and luck, Ron managed to complete and ship Graphing Calculator to more than 25 million customers. In 2004, Ron wrote down his story and published it on his company s Web site. There was an immediate and powerful response. Several hundred comments were posted on Slashdot, the hugely trafficked developer Web site. Soon, Newsweek picked up the story of the Graphing Calculator, and This American Life, a program on National Public Radio, ran a segment on the tale.
