What happened is a little different as this book attests: MCE has escaped from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) channel and is now available to hobbyists or enthusiasts willing to climb the learning curve, who want to build their own HTPCs. That said, there are still plenty of vendors who build Media Center PCs and who will gladly sell you a turnkey system.
